Action Items

How Lodestar extracts, links, and tracks commitments from email, meetings, and files.

What action items are

An Action Item is a commitment extracted from a source: an email thread, a meeting transcript, a file, or a message. Each item carries the exact evidence quote it was drawn from, so you can verify it and return to context in one click.

Every action item includes an evidence link: a direct reference to the sentence or passage that generated it. You can open the original email thread, meeting note, or file and see exactly where the commitment was made.

This is different from AI-generated summaries that obscure their sources. With evidence links, you always know what you're acting on and why.

Due dates and owners

Lodestar infers due dates and owners from context — "send the contract by Friday" and "Alice will handle the brief" each produce an item with the appropriate metadata. You can adjust any field manually.

  • Inferred due dates from thread language
  • Owner assigned from email participants or explicit mentions
  • Adjustable manually in one place across all projects

Item lifecycle

Items move through states: Open → In Progress → Done → Closed. You can mark items done individually or in bulk. Overdue open items surface in Today and in any connected AI context via the MCP server.
